This shoot is an annual event. It will be held May 17th, 2025. We will host several area teams during this 1 day tournament. It mimics the State Championship shoot in format, with two (2) full rounds of trap in the morning, and two (2) full rounds in the afternoon. There are prizes for each class (Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Novice). This is a fundraiser activity and family support is expected. This support is needed in a variety of areas including, but not limited to: loading houses, scoring, concessions, assisting with raffle sales and being a runner. There is a volunteer schedule developed with various time slots. Without support, this event cannot be a successful fundraiser for our team.

This shoot happens each June at the Alexandria Shooting Park in Alexandria, MN. This is a 9 day event during which time EVERY team in the state will be shooting. Each conference is given 1 day to participate. Typically, due to our team size, we will shoot toward the end of the 9-day event. The actual date will be determined and announced after the clay target league announces the conferences for the season. On our assigned day, opening ceremonies start at approximately 8am, and shooting commences afterward.
It is up to each individual family regarding if they travel the day before, or if they arrive the morning of the shoot. A schedule will be developed and announced prior, and team members will be instructed where to check in on arrival the day of the event. All lodging, travel, and associated expenses are each family’s responsibility. Camping is available onsite, with additional information available on the website (found through the link below).
Each shooter will shoot a total of 100 shells throughout the day. There is a morning session consisting of 2 full rounds of trap, and an afternoon session of 2 full rounds of trap. Participation at this shoot is required as a lettering requirement.
It is expected that each team member participates in this shoot. Through our team’s performance at this event, we have the ability to earn a team spot in the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) State Tournament at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake, MN. This is accomplished by having our high 5 scores result in a team score within the top 40 schools participating. Every score counts, just like during the regular season.

Participation in the Minnesota State High School League State Tournament, held in Prior Lake, is determined through both season average as an individual (Top 100 in state), and as a Team via finishing in the top 40 at the State Championship shoot in Alexandria.
If the team finishes within the top 40 at the Alexandria shoot, selection for the State Team (5 shooters and up to 2 alternates) will be accomplished as follows:
1. There will be a review of season averages (using only competitions weeks 1-5).2. There will an average created from both Tournaments (score from Lumberjack Invite, and score from Alexandria will be averaged).3. A new average will created using the two averages. (Example. Student A has a season average of 25, and a Tournament average of 23. The new average would be a 24)4. The top 5 persons will be given first opportunity to participate on the shooting team. This will continue in descending order until there are 5 shooters and at least 1 alternate, but no more than 2.
***This will result in a SHORT notification / decision window because this shoot is at the end of the same week as the Alexandria State Championship Shoot. Team members participating need to be registered on WEDNESDAY, for the FRIDAY competition.
Those selected to the team will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging to the State Tournament. Team members are also expected to participate in practice rounds the afternoon before the State shoot. These rounds occur at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake (the site of the State Tournament). Practice round fees will be covered by the team. The team will also provide one (1) case of ammunition for each participant. This allows for practice and competition. Competition consists of 4 rounds total (2 rounds, break, 2 rounds). The team competition occurs in the morning on the date of the shoot. If a team member qualifies for individual competition, AND is a member of the state team, they will receive an additional 2 boxes of shells.
All team members and coaches present are expected to wear team uniform apparel.
Those students who are selected to participate as an individual, will compete on the same date as the team shoot, but in the afternoon hours. The same uniform expectations apply to these participants, and ammunition will be provided as well for practice and competition. If a coach in not present, practice rounds can be re-imbursed upon submittal of receipts.
Dates for this event will be included on the season schedule.
